The Israeli Carthago, the South Korean Monstrous and the British docuseries The Man Who Stole the Scream will premiere in Cádiz during the Festival.
South International Series Festival, which will take place in Cadiz from October 6 to 12, reveals the first titles of its first edition. These are the Israeli series Carthago, the South Korean Monstrous, in the Official Fiction Section, and the British The Man Who Stole the Scream, in the Official Non-Fiction Section.
Based on a true story and having passed through the Cannes Series, Carthago is an Israeli historical drama and war thriller set in 1942 at the height of World War II and chronicles the rebellion of Jews in Palestine against the British. Written by Reshef Levi, Tome Shani and Yannets Levi and produced by 24 Drafts Studios, Yoav Gross and Reshef Levi himself, the series stars Uri Gov, Philip Glenister and Carolina Jurczak, among others.
Inspired by a traditional Korean legend, Monstrous depicts a series of events that take place as people are influenced by the presence of “Gwibul,” a cursed Buddhist statue. It is an original screenplay written by Yeon Sang-ho (Train to Busan, Peninsula) and Yong-Jae Ryoo, with production by Climax Studio and directed by Jang Kun-jae, the series premiered last season on Korean TVING-Studio Dragon and will be presented for the first time in Spain at the Festival as a sign of the growing public interest in the consumption of Korean fiction.
In addition to the fiction titles, South Series will present The Man Who Stole the Scream, a British docuseries that tells the story of the theft of one of the most iconic paintings in history, Edvard Munch’s The Scream, in 1994 and how, after an investigation that involved an extensive international deployment, only one person was convicted: former professional footballer Pål Enger. The directors of the series, Sunshine Jackson and Nigel Levy tell the story as if it were an extraordinary psychological crime novel. It premiered at the Copenhagen Documentary Film Festival and is executive produced by Asif Kapadia (Senna, Amy, Diego Maradona), Camilla Lewis and Rob Carey.
In addition, South Series will count with the participation in its first edition of different series that will be part of the programming of the main content platforms, as well as of the main television channels.
The complete program of the Festival will be announced on September 20. about fifty projects. Tickets for the public will be on sale during the last week of September and there will be special discounts for students, unemployed and retired persons.
Registration of audiovisual industry professionals
The South International Series Festival maintains the registration deadline for audiovisual industry professionals until September 25. Registration for this first edition will be free and will give access to all talks and presentations, premieres and will provide access to the village, a space designed by South to promote networking among participants.
