The Cadiz festival hosts an audience meeting with the director of the series, Óscar Aibar, and the actress María Galiana.
Tell me how it happenedone of the landmarks of Spanish television of all time, says goodbye to one of its most beloved characters, Herminia, in the new season that will start next Wednesday, October 18 on TVE’s La 1. The audience of the South International Series Festival that attended today the auditorium of the Palacio de Congresos de Cádiz was able to see a preview of this new installment of the legendary series that begins with the burial of the character. The actress who has been playing the role of Herminia since 2001, María Galiana from Seville, accompanied by the director Óscar Aibar, director, commented with good humor “I have seen that they have projected the only scene in which I do not appear”.
Aibar said that Herminia’s farewell was impressive for the whole team, “with María learning nine pages and the whole team crying when she did her last scene”. “Between us, it came out embroidered,” said Galiana. “If there’s one thing I have a good memory, it’s memory. I still know the Carnaval de Cádiz popurrís from the 80s, and even before! And she said she was delighted to participate in the South, because “I love Cadiz extraordinarily”.
For his part, the director has announced that in this new season of Cuéntame “there will be a family misunderstanding, motivated because Mercedes has the bad idea of distributing her inheritance during her lifetime”. A situation that, according to Galiana, is part of the normality of many Spanish families, since “in all of them there are difficult moments, tensions… and with couples, what do we do?”, he added, alluding to the romantic relationships of the different characters in the series.
For Óscar Aibar, one of the hallmarks that characterize
Cuéntame
is “a very high level of demand, which is something very difficult to maintain after so many years”, and he recalled when, 22 years ago, “we came out with such a great success, a 50 percent audience share -not even football- that most of the seasons have been longer than 20 episodes. In fact, the first one reached the unusual figure of 36 episodes.
A prominent role in this meeting was played by Tote Trenas, director of photography of the series, who has not spared praise for Galiana: “Maria is not only a great actress, but also our great advisor. She is the soul of the series, by age and wisdom,” he stressed. “That’s because I have a memory, I’ve lived it,” said the veteran actress. “It amuses me when young people are amazed at things like how they used to all wait for their father to come home for dinner, or that they didn’t go out at night, or if they did go out they were back home by eleven.” Finally, Óscar Aibar joked that many people call María Galiana by the name of Herminia, “and some people think that her house is as clean as it is in the series, because she cleans it herself”.
