SailGP: the roosters take off

In March 2022, Jordi Xammar, was announced as the new rider of the Spain SailGP Team. During the press conference, he stated, “Yesterday I was asking these guys for autographs, now I’m sitting with them and I have a chance to win SailGP.”

Shortly after his dream debut, Jordi faces reality: an unforgiving fleet, much more experienced pilots and the league’s CEO, Sir Russell Coutts, openly suggesting Jordi’s replacement. Overwhelmed by the challenge, Jordi will struggle to maintain the confidence to lead the team, but when he arrives at his GP in Cadiz the mood will change.

From the 30,000 people who turned out last year, when Spain was doing very well with Phil Robertson at the helm, now a whopping 70,000 fans are coming to support Jordi. He may be having a hard time, but the passion he has shown this season has earned him the support of everyone.

But Jordi Xammar was not going to last in the Spanish national team. After a long succession of disastrous results, Russell Coutts sacked Jordi. Diego Botín is the replacement. A new driver who has never driven an F50.
