The directorial debut of Rafael Cobos, a regular screenwriter in Alberto Rodríguez’s films, is based on the novel of the same name by author Rosario Izquierdo. The protagonist, Lola, is left-handed, upper-middle class and raised to lead a conventional life. She married young to Rodrigo, an ambitious and brilliant lawyer who has been involved in politics for several years.
The years when Lola and Rodrigo were in love are long gone. They have a daughter, Inés, who is at university, and a son, Lorenzo, who is seventeen.
Lorenzo is also left-handed, but his parents did not tie his hand to the chair to force him to write or use cutlery with his right hand, as his grandmother Pilar did with his mother. For some time now he has been living his life in a somewhat uncontrolled way, inscrutable to others. He hangs out in radical neo-fascist circles and is involved in attacks on immigrants or fights with other radical gangs. His family did not know what he was up to. After one of these fights, he is arrested by the police along with his best friend, known as ‘El Loco’.
From then on, Lola seeks the help of Maru, El Loco’s mother, to understand her son better. The relationship between the two mothers is not easy, with moments of closeness and moments of tension. But Lola needs to look at life with different eyes and talk to someone who understands her.
