Synopsis

In recent years, the Americas have experienced complex and growing displacement dynamics, particularly with the increase in the number of people fleeing northern Central America, Colombia, Nicaragua and Venezuela, as well as internal displacement in Honduras, El Salvador and Colombia. To date, these areas are home to one in five of the world’s displaced people, and with a difficult socio-economic situation exacerbated by COVID-19, they are among the most vulnerable but resilient populations overall. The people forced to migrate to the region include those who do not usually make the headlines or are hidden behind major emergencies. They are Colombians and Venezuelans, including indigenous communities, struggling to survive in unfamiliar territory. This three-part documentary tells the stories of six people who have been uprooted and now live in three countries in the Americas and the Caribbean. In their own voices, they take the audience on a journey into the past, the present and their hopes for the future. They share their experiences of violence and instability, the often dangerous journeys they took to find safety, the struggles to rebuild their lives in exile, the dreams they still have, and how they find hope amidst uncertainty.
