From October 6 to 12, the city will host some twenty premieres of national and international series
Madrid, June 6, 2023. Cadiz will become the capital of the audiovisual industry by hosting the first edition of the South Series International Festival from October 6 to 12. During these six days, different enclaves of the city will host professionals from the national and international audiovisual sector specialized in series.
South Series is an innovative festival that will deal exclusively with series and will be a meeting place for professionals of the audiovisual sector and for the public. It is the framework in which both the projects and the trends in series of the next season will be presented. Thus, Cadiz will host some twenty premieres of fiction and non-fiction series and will also allow series fans to interact with their idols. In total, more than one hundred series will be included in the program of parallel activities, screenings and other sections.
The aim is for South Series to become the largest series festival for the audiovisual industry in Southern Europe. The event will have two important content sections: on the one hand, series and audiences, and on the other, the audiovisual industry.
The large content section will have the public as the main protagonist: it will be a festival that will allow interaction between the protagonists of the series and the moviegoers. Numerous well-known faces of the international audiovisual scene will visit Cádiz to present their projects and interact with the public. The main audiovisual production companies have already been contacted to present the novelties of the season. At the same time, a registration process has been set up in which nearly two hundred series from 17 countries such as the United States, Iran, India, France, Italy and Argentina have been submitted.
In addition, South Series will be the connection point for the international audiovisual industry and the meeting place for creators from all over the world with Spanish creators. Hence, it includes different actions and parallel activities that will promote the development of the audiovisual industry in both Cadiz and the rest of Andalusia.
In this first edition, the organizers of the Festival are preparing an ambitious program of more than seventy activities aimed at enabling professionals to exchange experiences and network. On this occasion, South Series is targeting the European, Latin American and African markets. Cadiz will also be a meeting place for alliances, highlighting the great possibilities and the enormous potential of the Andalusian territory for co-production.
The series industry’s big bet
South Series is a “big bet of the series industry” to reinforce the prestige and consolidate a brand, with all the strength required by the current market in full transformation, after the pandemic. This was announced by Arturo Bernal, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sports, during the first presentation of the festival at FITUR.
Andalusia has become one of the regions of reference in Spanish audiovisual production, both for the projects that are promoted from here and for being the ideal territory for the development of film and series shooting in southern Europe. According to the data provided in the latest report presented by the Andalucía Film Commission, in 2021 the community hosted more than 1,300 film shoots that had an economic impact of 118 million euros.
Cadiz is also immersed in a positioning strategy within the audiovisual industry, and events such as the South Series come to consolidate it. The organization has taken into account these objectives, as well as the potential of the city and its capacity to offer the audiovisual industry participating in the event the opportunity to work and enjoy a wide cultural offer.
South Series International Festival is a private initiative with the main sponsorship of the Junta de Andalucía and the close collaboration of the city council of Cádiz. The festival will take place from October 6 to 12 in various emblematic sites in Cadiz.
