The SUR section will showcase the best series shot and created in Andalusia and SOUTH BOOST will promote the most ambitious Andalusian series in development.
It is committed to emerging Andalusian talent and the diversity of Andalusian professionals in major international and home-grown productions.
In addition, the directors of the Malaga, Seville and Almeria Festivals will analyze the incorporation of series to their programming, within the framework of the meetings of LANDMEET, the audiovisual and digital content cluster of Andalusia.
Thursday, July 18, 2024. South International Series Festival consolidates in this second edition its support to the Andalusian audiovisual industry, reinforcing its SUR section, a selection of the best series shot, created and produced in Andalusia, and premiering its industry section SOUTH BOOST, a boost for Andalusian series in development. In SOUTH BOOST, productions with Andalusian authorship and production will be presented to industry professionals and will compete for an award, judged by executives and directors of television stations, platforms and institutions nationwide. The registration period is open until July 31.
South International Series Festival consolidates in this second edition its commitment to homegrown talent, gender diversity and the promotion of the Andalusian productive and creative fabric. Thus, one of the new institutional collaborators of this second edition will be LAND, the audiovisual and digital content cluster of Andalusia.
LAND will organize the LANDMEET meeting with the directors of the Malaga, Seville and Almeria Festivals -JuanAntonio Vigar, Manuel Cristóbal and Enrique Iznaola-, who will analyze the incorporation of series into their programming and the creative innovation that this has entailed in the programming of their events. The meeting will be moderated by journalist Alejandro Ávila, responsible for the SUR and SOUTH BOOST sections.
Also in support of the local sector, and within the framework of the industry meetings, art director Vanesa de la Haza and localizer Juan Antonio Clemente, who have worked in Andalusia for international series of the relevance of Kaos, La monja guerrera or La Peste, will explain in a didactic and practical way, how to transform the historical heritage into the set of an audiovisual superproduction.
Beyond the industry, and in its consolidated support to the new Andalusian talent, South is already announcing the presence of the promising new director Julio Blez in the SUR section. will present the pilot of Blanca Bocanegraa black humor series about a technician in the audiovisual industry in the midst of the crisis of the 40s. The protagonist has no job, no money and no partner, but he does have an idea: to write a series about himself. What he doesn’t know is that, in doing so, his identity crisis will push him further over the edge than ever before.
In addition, in its firm commitment to gender diversity, the South will once again count on the collaboration of AAMMA, the Andalusian Association of Women in Audiovisual Media, for the organization of the meeting South Women: What do we talk about when we talk about Andalusian series? The activity will analyze the production made for platforms from the perspective of gender and Andalusian identity. Producers Pilar Crespo(Operación Barrio Inglés. RTVE) and Teresa Segura(En fin. Prime Video) will participate. The moderator will be journalist Cristina Consuegra.
Local audiences will also have the opportunity to enjoy the most anticipated series and be close to their idols on the red carpet, thanks to the varied programming of premieres, season previews, unpublished gems, presentations and exhibitions, both national and international.
South Series is a private initiative, co-financed by the Feder Andalucía 2021-2027 Program and the Junta de Andalucía, with the City Council of Cádiz and the Diputación de Cádiz as official entities.
