Jury members for the 2024 edition

The second edition of the South Series International Festival will have a jury made up of eight prominent professionals from the audiovisual world. Among them are renowned directors, scriptwriters, producers and experts in audiovisual media, chosen for their experience and ability to identify the best proposals in the field of series.

This multidisciplinary jury’s task is to evaluate the participating series, analysing both their technical and artistic quality, with the aim of rewarding the most innovative and creative productions. Thanks to their different backgrounds, they will provide a complete and balanced vision, guaranteeing a high level of analysis.

Sofia Squittieri

Sofía Squittieri is an audiovisual professional with experience in executive production, content development and screenwriting, both in Spain and the United States. With a degree in English Studies from UCM and a Masters in Screenwriting for Film and TV from Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, Sofia complemented her education with a prestigious scholarship in film, screenwriting and acting at the University of Los Angeles, California (UCLA). In addition, she furthered her acting skills at the Cristina Rota School and Work In Progress.

She began her career as a screenwriter at Comedy Central News (2017) and participated in the production of film festivals, series and entrepreneurship projects with The Pink Dream Factory (2017-2019), combining these activities with her work as an actress. In 2019, she joined Balance Media Entertainment, where she has managed the Content and Sales departments, overseeing project development, talent search, content sales and international co-productions.

In parallel, she has developed her career as an independent creator through her label Adrenaline Productions, where she has produced and scripted both fiction and entertainment, collaborating with prominent producers and filmmakers. She has also taken on the role of director on music videos and the Instagram series Chicos in her T1. In 2021, she was invited to give a TEDx talk titled Fiction Breaks the Silence, in which she explores the power of audiovisual narrative to make taboo topics visible and generate social impact.

Member of the Academia de las Artes y las Ciencias Cinematográficas and the Academia de la Televisión, and winner of the MAFIZ Hack at the Malaga Film Festival (2023), she continues her career as a creator of innovative content, specializing in executive production, scriptwriting and development of audiovisual projects. She also stands out in the field of comedy as a stand-up scriptwriter and creator of the videopodcast Curreles. She will soon premiere on Filmin the mini-series Crónicas de una actriz superviviente (Chronicles of a Surviving Actress ) as creator and producer.

 

Ramón Salázar

He trained as an actor at the ESAD in Malaga and studied screenwriting at the ECAM.

His first short film HONGOS (1999) was widely screened at national and international festivals with public and critical acclaim. Thanks to this, he was able to shoot his debut film PIEDRAS (2002), which competed in the Official Selection at the Berlinale. The film won awards at international festivals such as Stockholm, Ghent, San Francisco; as well as a Goya nomination for the best film of the year.

His second feature film, the musical 20 CENTÍMETROS (2005) won awards in the Official Selection of the Locarno Festival, as well as a wide international premiere in countries such as the United States, France, Italy and Belgium.

In his third film as director and screenwriter 10.000 NOCHES EN NINGUNA PARTE (2013) he starts a creative tandem with actress Susi Sánchez that gets his first Goya nomination.

Her fourth and latest feature film LA ENFERMEDAD DEL DOMINGO (2018) premiered at the Berlinale and New York’s Tribeca Film Festival and actress Susi Sanchez won the Goya for.

As a screenwriter, he has adapted two bestsellers, 3 METERS ABOVE THE SKY (2010) and its sequel TENGO GANAS DE TI (2012), nominated for the Goya for
Best Adapted Screenplay
for both.

In television, he has been the director of the first two seasons of ELITE (2018-2019) for Netflix, as well as the final season of the prison drama VIS A VIS (2019). He has pending release his first international series shot in the UK RED ROSE (2022) produced by the BBC, Eleven Film and Netflix.

Anna Saura

Producer of fiction and documentaries, some of her productions are “11M” (Netflix, 2021), “El rey de todo el mundo” (Carlos Saura, 202), “Diarios de la Cuarentena” (TVE), “Relatos Con-fin-a-dos” (Prime Video) and “Cuidado con lo que deseas” (Fernando Colomo, 2021). Since 2022, she has been in charge of documentaries at Morena Films, where she has produced “Tequila: Sex, drugs and rock&roll” (Alvaro Longoria, 2022) and “La vida de Brianeitor” (Alvaro Longoria, 2023). In parallel, he founded ATRECE CREACIONES in 2020, where he produced “Rosa Rosae”, “Soy cloe. Existo” and “Cuentas Divinas”, a fiction short film that was nominated for the Goya Awards in 2024 after winning more than 30 national and international awards, and “Agonía”. Since 2024 she has been the coordinator of the Masters in Project Development and Management of Audiovisual Companies at ECAM.

 

Ana Torrent

Ana Torrent began her film career at the age of seven with director Víctor Erice in El espíritu de la colmena – for which she won the Silver Fotogramas Award for Best Actress. 30 years later, she worked with him again in the film Cerrar los ojos, which had its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in 2023 and earned her nominations for the Goya, Forqué and Feroz Awards for Best Supporting Actress, as well as the Fotogramas de Plata and the CEC Medal for Best Supporting Actress.

She worked with Carlos Saura on the films Cría Cuervos, which won the Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival, and Elisa Vida Mia, which also won the Special Jury Prize at Cannes. In 1980 she made El nido with Jaime de Armiñan, a film that was nominated for an Oscar and for which she won the Best Actress award at the Montreal Festival and the New York Critics Awards.

Encouraged by Erice to continue her acting career, Ana attended Cristina Rota’s classes, combining them with a degree in Geography and History. Years later, she won a scholarship to study filmmaking in New York. She also studied acting for four years with Uta Hagen at the Manhattan Theatre School HB Studios and was introduced to the Alexander Technique.

Since then, Ana divides her time between Madrid and New York. She has taken part in national projects such as Sobre todo de noche, directed by Víctor Iriarte; Nieva en Benidorm, by Isabel Coixet; Verónica, directed by Paco Plaza; Tesis, by Alejandro Amenábar, for which she was nominated for a Goya in the Best Actress category; Vacas, by Julio Medem; Yoyes, by Helena Taberna; or No-Do, by Elio Quiroga – as well as international films – There Be Dragons, by Roland Joffé; The Other Boleyn Girl, directed by Justin Chadwick; or in the series of British films by Peter Greenaway: The Tulse Luper Suitcases II and III. She also appeared in Raúl Herrera’s short film Plein Air. She recently filmed Raíces in Puerto Rico, directed by Gustavo Ramos.

Her television career began with the series Anillos de oro, directed by Pedro Masó, and continued with El jardín de Venus, by José María Forqué, and Segunda enseñanza, also by Masó. She has participated in international series such as Hemingway, by Bernhard Sinkel, La Piovra, for RAI in Italy, and Kinsey, for the BBC. Her most recent works include Bosé, directed by Mikel Rueda, for SkyShowtime and Mano de hierro, by Lluís Quílez, for Netflix. She recently shot Furia, the latest series by Félix Sabroso for Max.

In the theatre, her recent productions include Muero por que no muero, by Paco Bezerra and directed by Matías Umpiérrez. Las Criadas, directed by Luis Luque; Todas las noches de un día, by Alberto Conejero; and Imperio, by Matías Umpiérrez. She has also appeared in Gustave Flaubert’s Madame Bovary, directed by Magüi Mira, and William Shakespeare’s Richard III, directed by Carlos Martín.

Angeles González Sinde

Angeles González-Sinde is a screenwriter and film and television director. She won a Goya Award for best screenplay for “La buena estrella” and another for best new director for “La suerte dormida”. She has also directed the feature films “El comensal” (2022), adapted from the novel of the same name by Gabriela Ybarra; “Una palabra tuya” (2008), adapted from the novel by Elvira Lindo; “A mí quién me cuida” (2006) for Canal Sur and TV3; “La suerte dormida” (2004). She is currently preparing “Después de Kim”, to be shot in 2025. Her latest work as a director is the documentary “La conquista de la democracia”, which RTVE will premiere in 2025.

She is the screenwriter of several feature films, such as “Tierra baja” by Miguel Santesmases; “Todos estamos invitados” and “La vida que te espera” by Manuel Gutiérrez Aragón; “Mentiras y gordas” and “Entre vivir y soñar” by Menkes and Albacete; “Los aires difíciles, Heroína, El misterio de Galíndez, Las razones de mis amigos by Gerardo Herrero; Segunda piel by Gerardo Vera; La puta y la ballena by Luis Puenzo; Antigua vida mía by Héctor Olivera; 7 minutos by Daniela Fejerman; Otra ciudad by Silvia Quer.

She has been awarded the Cartelera Turia Prize, the Best Film Prize at the Nantes Spanish Film Festival, the Mestre Mateo Prize at the Galician Film Academy, the Best Screenplay Prize at the Malaga Film Festival, the Silver Lighthouse at the L’Alfas del Pi Film Festival, the Círculo de Escritores Cinematográficos Medal, among others.

A versatile writer, as a novelist she was a finalist for the Planeta Prize, winner of the Edebé Prize for Children’s Literature, and is also a playwright. Her work in television ranges from comedies to daily series (five seasons of “Amar es para siempre”) or primetime dramas (Bosé). She has a degree in Classics and an MFA from the American Film Institute in Los Angeles.

 

Juan Parodi

With more than 30 years of experience in the audiovisual industry, Juan Parodi has played key roles in various areas of the media. He was Director of Programming for a major television network and Executive Director of Argentina’s public media, where he led key initiatives for the development and distribution of quality content.

Internationally, he worked at Sony Pictures International and FremantleMedia, overseeing productions of global scope and bringing his strategic vision to high-impact projects.

He then created his own production company, which has won major awards in the fiction and entertainment categories and established himself as an influential figure in the creation of audiovisual content.

 

Rémi Tereszkiewicz

Rémi Tereszkiewicz is an expert in OTT services and TV series marketing.
Having worked since 1994 as VP or SVP in sales and marketing positions for various companies such as Warner Brothers (2016), Lagardère Studios (2014), Netgem (2004) or Eurosport (1994), he led the creation and launch of numerous TV services.

Virginia Yagüe

Virginia Yagüe has an extensive professional career as a creator and scriptwriter of Spanish television series such as “La Señora”, “14 de Abril: La República”, “Amar en Tiempos Revueltos” (Golden TP Award for Best TV Series 2012, Ondas Award 2008 and Silver Medal for Best Drama Series at the New York Festival 2007), the TV movie “Prim, el asesinato de la Calle del Turco” (Silver Globe at the World Media Festival in Hamburg and Gold Medal for Best TV Movie at the NY International Film Festival 2015) and “Amar es Para Siempre” (Alma Awards for Best Daily Series 2019, 2022 and 2024). Her most recent work as a scriptwriter includes the miniseries “Invisible” for Diney+ and her participation in the series “Operación Barrio Inglés” and “Abogadas” for TVE.
In cinema, he won the Golden Biznaga at the 2012 Malaga Festival for the screenplay of the feature film “Els Nens Salvatges”, his third film after “Para que no me olvides” and his participation in the group films “En el mundo, a cada rato”, “Ellas son África” and “El tren de la libertad”. He is currently shooting the script for his latest feature film, “Nosotros”.

She is the current president of DAMA (Entidad de Gestión de Derechos de Medios Audiovisuales) and a member of the board of the Spanish Film Academy, specifically in the screenwriting section. She is a member of the Board of Patrons of the SAA (Society of Audiovisual Authors).

She combines her professional work with teaching master classes as an expert in narrative and screenwriting techniques in various film schools, universities and screenwriting laboratories, and has published several novels, including “El Marqués” (Temas de hoy) and “La última princesa del pacífico” (Planeta).
