Chapter 1

Synopsis

13 days of a complex and desperate rescue. A family reunion that ended in tragedy. A heroic struggle of volunteers from Spain and around the world. 13 days that shocked the whole world. This is the story of the terrible fate of the Roselló family, whose life was turned upside down on Sunday afternoon, January 13, 2019. Their two-year-old son, Julen, fell into a prospecting well of just over 20 centimeters in diameter and more than 100 meters deep, located on a farm in the town of Totalán, in the province of Málaga. From that moment on, an unprecedented rescue was mobilized, which included the participation of more than 300 professionals among firefighters, engineers, geologists, miners, and generated an exciting wave of solidarity outside and inside Spain. The three-episode documentary series, which includes exclusive and unpublished audiovisual material, chronologically recounts those harrowing thirteen days, through the stories of the protagonists: José and Victoria, Julen’s parents; the chief engineer of the rescue operation, Ángel García Vidal; the former head of the Mining Rescue Brigade, Sergio Tuñón, and Nicolás Rando, a member of the Guardia Civil Mountain Team that rescued the boy’s body, among others.
